10 Things I Like Most About Mixx
![]()
In just a little over a month, Mixx has become one of the hottest social bookmarking destinations online. In fact, a number of Digg refugees have made a new home at Mixx.
They have combined the best elements from Digg, Propeller, Reddit, and Del.icio.us and combined them into one simple interface.
So far, Mixx is my favorite Digg clone and one that I think might actually make it.
Here’s why…
1. Refreshing design. Mixx is one of the most visually appealing social bookmarking sites on the Web. Not to mention, it has a simple interface that is very easy to navigate.
2. Much like Del.icio.us, Mixx allows you to add tags to a story. You can also subscribe to the tag of your choice and stay updated on your favorite news.
3. More categories. You’ll find everything from business and technology to parenting
and photography. You don’t have to be a tech nut to enjoy Mixx.
4. In Mixx, you can actually see who has voted against your story, something
that’s not available in Digg. Interesting… I wonder how this affects the number of
people who will bury a story?
5. Personalize the home page. They offer a personalized “My Mixx” page where users can follow categories, tags, and people to help you discover new (relevant) hot stuff.
According to the About Us page, “You find it; we’ll Mixx it. Use YourMixx to tailor the content categories, tags, specific users and private groups—even RSS feeds—and we’ll deliver the top-rated content as chosen by you and people who share your passions. So go ahead and whip up your own version of the web. Just tell us how you like it Mixxed and we’ll deliver the best the web has to offer—morning, noon and night.”
6. Ability to post to multiple categories.
7. Mixx Groups. Here’s a cool feature that you won’t find on the main social bookmarking sites. using Mixx groups, you can track a very targeted group of stories and news items. Not only can you have all of your Mixx friends, but you can also join a “group” within Mixx if you are invited. Pretty cool…
You can also create your own groups. As the administrator of the group, you can then invite friends to join the group. Whenever a story is submitted to that particular group, the users receive an email notification of the new story.
8. Mixx has seperate sections for photos and videos, making the layout much cleaner
and more comprehensive.
9. So far, the Mixx audience is very pleasant. You won’t find the kind of bashing here that is common-place on Digg. Hopefully, this will continue as the site grows.
10. Here’s something that’s kind of funny… This is what Mixx looks like when the site is down for maintenance.

If they can sustain this momentum, things could start to get very interesting in the
world of social bookmarking.
Who’s the cute kid? I think I’ve seen a picture of him somewhere before.
